Overview of Sheltered Instruction Observational Protocol (SIOP)

Course purpose and syllabus: There are three purposes of this course:
1. Participants will refine their understandings of and practices in Shel;tered Instruction.
2. Participants will refine the use of student work in the data team process.
3. Participants will reflect on practices and progress of students for credit through their UCD grant.

The books, 99 Ideas and Activities for Teaching Secondary ELL Students and Sheltered Instruction Observational Protocol are being used for the content of this class.
Participants discussed their current understandings of Sheltered instruction, asked clarifying questions of the instructors and completed the following chart. The chart is based on information in the above mentioned texts as well as What Works in Classroom Instruction by Marzano et al. 2008.
